After your boat is connected, Saillogger starts with default display settings. You can change them to match how you use the boat: feet or meters, your name for a familiar pontoon, or a fuel gauge beside the water tank.
All of it lives in Settings at saillogger.com/app/settings, one section per subject. Reach it from Settings at the foot of the navigation, from your account menu at the top right, or under More on a phone. Changes save as soon as you make them: there is no Save button on most of these screens.
Units
Open Settings > Units & appearance (saillogger.com/app/settings/units).
Units starts with a Unit system switch:
- Metric sets every measurement below to its metric default.
- Imperial sets every measurement below to its imperial default.
- Custom is not a button. It appears on its own the moment you change any single measurement, to tell you that is where you are.
A convenient starting point is to choose Metric or Imperial, then change any individual measurements you prefer differently. The switch moves to Custom automatically.
The eight measurements
Each row has its own list, and you can mix them freely.

Your choices apply everywhere Saillogger shows your data: maps, gauges, logs, statistics, e-mails and alerts. There is no separate setting for e-mail.
Your own stay types
Every stay and every moorage carries a type, so you can see how much of your season was spent at anchor rather than in a marina. Open Settings > Stay types.
Four types are built in and cannot be changed or deleted:
- Anchor
- Mooring Buoy, meaning a buoy or ball you tie up to, not a berth in a marina
- Dock
- Unknown
Under Your types, add your own:
- Press Add type.
- Type a name, up to 30 characters. The field suggests
e.g. Marina. - Press Save.
You can have up to 20 of your own types. Each one carries a pencil to rename it and a bin to delete it.
Your types then appear in the type picker on every moorage and every stay, and in your statistics, next to the built-in four.
Monitoring sections of your own
Your instruments panel shows depth, wind, temperatures, batteries and so on. Anything else your boat network carries, you add yourself as a monitoring section: a titled group of readings, for example a Tanks section holding Freshwater, Wastewater and Fuel.
Open Settings > Sensors, and scroll to Additional monitoring.
- Press Add a section.
- Give it a title. The field suggests
Section title, e.g. Tanks. - Choose what it Measures. That choice controls conversion and display, as explained below.
- Under Fields, press Add field once per reading. Each field takes a name of up to 15 characters (the field suggests
Name, e.g. Freshwater) and a data source, chosen from the list of everything your boat has reported. - Turn on Show on public pages if visitors should see this section, off if it is for you alone.
To remove one, use Delete section at the bottom of that section.
You can rename a section or a field, add a field, or change whether visitors see the section, without losing the readings it has already collected. Changing what a section Measures, or swapping a field's data source for another, starts its history afresh, because the old readings would no longer mean the same thing.
The full list of types is: Other, Length, Distance, Speed, Percentage, Volume, Temperature, Atmospheric Pressure, Battery, Direction, Industrial Pressure, RPM, Duration, Rate for Volume.
Changes have to reach the boat, so the boat must be online. The screen shows a countdown while that happens, and you can leave it while it continues. Reopen your dashboard after the countdown ends.
Which sensor Saillogger reads
A well-equipped boat often reports the same measurement from more than one place: two depth sounders, a masthead unit and a handheld anemometer, three temperature sensors. Sensor sources, in the same Sensors section, is where you say which one Saillogger should use.
There is one row per reading:
- Depth
- Wind speed, Wind direction
- Inside temperature, Outside temperature, Water temperature
- Inside humidity, Outside humidity
- Barometer
- Battery charge, Battery voltage
Each list contains sources the boat has reported. Pick the blank option at the top to clear a choice.
If the list is empty or the reading you want is missing:
- Confirm that the boat network is publishing the reading and that its timestamp is current.
- Your plugin is older than 3.0.0. Upgrade it, then come back here.
- The boat is offline, so a change you make cannot reach it. Wait until it is back online.
Where the monitoring track starts
The first row of Dashboard is Show my cruise from. It picks the trip your chart draws the track from, so you can show the whole passage from your home port rather than only the last few hours. Choose Latest position only, the first entry in the list, to clear it.

Your boat's details
Open Settings > Boat.
Type decides two things: the icon that represents your boat on charts, and whether Saillogger calculates the sailing versus motoring split of your trips. The choices are:
- Not specified (use AIS vessel type)
- Monohull sailboat
- Sailing catamaran
- Motorboat with inboard engine
- Powerboat with outboard engine
- Motoryacht
- Superyacht
Make & model is free text, shown alongside your boat.
Photo is a picture of your boat. Press Add a photo of your boat, pick the file, and wait while it uploads. The photo appears on your pages and to friends who follow you. Remove takes it down again, asking once first.
Light or dark
Under Settings > Units & appearance, below the units, Appearance offers a Light or a Dark theme.
The theme is remembered on the device you set it on rather than on your account, so your phone can be dark for night watches and your laptop light at the chart table.
Finding your way around
On a wide screen the navigation is a rail down the left. It rests as a strip of icons and opens over the chart when you point at it, without pushing anything aside; the button at its foot pins it open, and Saillogger remembers that. On a phone there are five tabs along the bottom, Dashboard, Logbook, Moorages, Friends and More, and More is the complete index of everything else.
Settings, Referrals and Sign out sit at the foot of the rail, and Settings and Referrals are in your account menu at the top right too. On a phone the same three are at the end of More, under Account.
