Where your boat has been is sensitive information. A new Saillogger account has public sharing off, so other boaters and visitors cannot open your boat pages unless you decide to publish them.
This page covers the account itself: your password, your data, what other people can see, and how to leave.
Nothing is public until you turn it on
Public sharing is off by default. Your logs, positions, moorages, stays and monitoring pages are not available to other boaters or public visitors until you open the Sharing tab and turn Sharing on.
Turning Sharing on initially enables every shareable page: live tracking and monitoring, timelapse, stats, the logbook list and individual log pages. Review those switches immediately and turn off anything you do not intend to publish. The journal follows Live Tracking & Monitoring rather than having its own switch. You can also add an access password for people you choose.
If you never turn Sharing on, your boat pages remain unavailable to public visitors. The whole subject, including the access password and how to verify it, is in Share your boat.
Changing your password
- Open Settings and stay on the General tab.
- On the Password row, click Change Password.
- Fill in Current Password, New Password and Confirm New Password.
- Click Update Password.
The dialog says your password has been updated and closes itself. You stay signed in on this device, and nothing else about your account changes.
If the dialog shows a message in red, check whether the current password matched, the two new entries matched, and the new password meets the displayed requirements. The minimum length is 8 characters, and common, all-numeric or highly similar passwords may be rejected.
If you have forgotten your password
Use Forgot your password? on the sign-in form, or go straight to saillogger.com/accounts/password_reset/. You get an e-mail with a link that lets you set a new one.
If it does not work:
- Confirm that the address matches the one registered to the account.
- Check the spam or junk folder for the password-reset message.
- If your account was closed or cancelled, the reset can fail without explaining why. Write to [email protected] from the registered address.
Changing your e-mail address
Your e-mail address is your username, and there is nowhere in Saillogger to change it. If you need it changed, for example because you have left an old provider behind, write to [email protected] from the address currently on the account and ask.
If you think someone else has your password
Do these in order:
- Change the password using the steps above. Your current session stays signed in while other sessions must authenticate with the new password.
- If your public pages use an access password, change that too, on the Sharing tab. It is separate and does not rotate with your login.
- Check Settings > Sharing for anything switched on that you did not switch on.
- Write to [email protected] if anything looks wrong. Saillogger staff can look at the account with you.
Your Collector ID is a credential
Settings > Boat shows a Collector ID. That is the identifier your device uses to send data as your boat.
If you think yours has been exposed, write to [email protected].
Getting your data out
You can download copies of your trips, stays, moorages and tracks while your account is accessible.
| What | Format | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Your logbook | CSV | saillogger.com/logs/export/ |
| Your stays | CSV | saillogger.com/stays/export/ |
| Your moorages | GPX | saillogger.com/moorages/export/ |
| Your tracks | GPX | saillogger.com/timelapse/export/ |
The CSV files open in any spreadsheet. The GPX files open in chartplotter software and most navigation apps. The track export asks you which range of logs you want before it builds the file; the other three download straight away.
These are specific trip, stay, moorage and track exports, not a complete account archive. Photos and other journal media are not included. Keep the originals or save important photos separately from the journal before deleting or pausing the account.
What is in each one:
- The logbook CSV has a row per trip: its name, the boat, the moorage you left from and the one you arrived at, start and end times, distance, average speed and your notes. If your boat reported sensor data on a trip, the row also carries the minimum, maximum and average of each reading.
- The stays CSV has a row per stay: the moorage, the type you gave it, when you arrived, when you left, how long you were there and your notes.
- The moorages GPX is a waypoint per moorage, named, ready to load into a chartplotter.
- The tracks GPX is the recorded track across the logs you selected.
What other people can see about you
Short version: your public pages, and your boat's name.
- Your public pages, but only the ones you have switched on, and only if you have turned Sharing on at all. If you set an access password, only people who have it can open them.
- Your boat's name. This is how you appear to the people you share with: to fleet-mates, to friends and to anyone following your boat. Saillogger identifies you by boat name, never by your e-mail address or username.
- Someone who follows your Saillogger profile is shown the boat's name. Profile following requires the owner's sharing permission or current access password. Separately, a vessel broadcasting AIS may appear through public AIS data even when its Saillogger pages are private.
Your e-mail address is never shown to other boaters.
Deleting your account
- Open Settings and stay on the General tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Delete Account.
- A box asks you to confirm your e-mail address. Type it exactly as it appears on the account.
Deleting the account closes it, cancels the subscription, and takes down every shared page, so links you have given to family or friends stop working.
If you want a break rather than an ending, look at the seasonal pause in Subscription and seasonal pause instead. Your account data is retained while that pause remains available.
The formal documents
Two things say what Saillogger commits to, and they are the authority rather than this guide:
- The Terms of Service
- The Privacy Policy
If something in them is unclear, ask on the community forum or write to [email protected].
