# Your account, data and privacy What is private by default, how to change your password, how to get your data out, what other people can see, and how to close the account for good. Where your boat has been is sensitive information. A new Saillogger account has public sharing off, so other boaters and visitors cannot open your boat pages unless you decide to publish them. This page covers the account itself: your password, your data, what other people can see, and how to leave. ## Nothing is public until you turn it on Public sharing is off by default. Your logs, positions, moorages, stays and monitoring pages are not available to other boaters or public visitors until you open the **Sharing** tab and turn **Sharing** on. Turning **Sharing** on initially enables every shareable page: live tracking and monitoring, timelapse, stats, the logbook list and individual log pages. Review those switches immediately and turn off anything you do not intend to publish. The journal follows **Live Tracking & Monitoring** rather than having its own switch. You can also add an access password for people you choose. If you never turn Sharing on, your boat pages remain unavailable to public visitors. The whole subject, including the access password and how to verify it, is in [Share your boat](https://saillogger.com/docs/share-your-boat.md). ## Changing your password 1. Open **Settings** and stay on the **General** tab. 2. On the **Password** row, click **Change Password**. 3. Fill in **Current Password**, **New Password** and **Confirm New Password**. 4. Click **Update Password**. The dialog says your password has been updated and closes itself. You stay signed in on this device, and nothing else about your account changes. If the dialog shows a message in red, check whether the current password matched, the two new entries matched, and the new password meets the displayed requirements. The minimum length is 8 characters, and common, all-numeric or highly similar passwords may be rejected. > [!NOTE] > The access password on your public pages is a different thing entirely. It controls what visitors can open; it does not protect your account, and it is not your login password. Never make the two the same. ## If you have forgotten your password Use **Forgot your password?** on the sign-in form, or go straight to [saillogger.com/accounts/password_reset/](https://saillogger.com/accounts/password_reset/). You get an e-mail with a link that lets you set a new one. **If it does not work:** - Confirm that the address matches the one registered to the account. - Check the spam or junk folder for the password-reset message. - If your account was closed or cancelled, the reset can fail without explaining why. Write to info@saillogger.com from the registered address. ## Changing your e-mail address Your e-mail address is your username, and there is nowhere in Saillogger to change it. If you need it changed, for example because you have left an old provider behind, write to info@saillogger.com from the address currently on the account and ask. ## If you think someone else has your password Do these in order: 1. Change the password using the steps above. Your current session stays signed in while other sessions must authenticate with the new password. 2. If your public pages use an access password, change that too, on the **Sharing** tab. It is separate and does not rotate with your login. 3. Check **Settings** > **Sharing** for anything switched on that you did not switch on. 4. Write to info@saillogger.com if anything looks wrong. Saillogger staff can look at the account with you. ## Your Collector ID is a credential **Settings** > **Boat** shows a **Collector ID**. That is the identifier your device uses to send data as your boat. > [!WARNING] > Treat the **Collector ID** like a password because it connects a device to your boat. Do not paste it into a public forum thread, and check for it before posting a screenshot of your settings. If you think yours has been exposed, write to info@saillogger.com. ## Getting your data out You can download copies of your trips, stays, moorages and tracks while your account is accessible. | What | Format | Where | | --- | --- | --- | | Your logbook | CSV | [saillogger.com/logs/export/](https://saillogger.com/logs/export/) | | Your stays | CSV | [saillogger.com/stays/export/](https://saillogger.com/stays/export/) | | Your moorages | GPX | [saillogger.com/moorages/export/](https://saillogger.com/moorages/export/) | | Your tracks | GPX | [saillogger.com/timelapse/export/](https://saillogger.com/timelapse/export/) | The CSV files open in any spreadsheet. The GPX files open in chartplotter software and most navigation apps. The track export asks you which range of logs you want before it builds the file; the other three download straight away. These are specific trip, stay, moorage and track exports, not a complete account archive. Photos and other journal media are not included. Keep the originals or save important photos separately from the journal before deleting or pausing the account. What is in each one: - **The logbook CSV** has a row per trip: its name, the boat, the moorage you left from and the one you arrived at, start and end times, distance, average speed and your notes. If your boat reported sensor data on a trip, the row also carries the minimum, maximum and average of each reading. - **The stays CSV** has a row per stay: the moorage, the type you gave it, when you arrived, when you left, how long you were there and your notes. - **The moorages GPX** is a waypoint per moorage, named, ready to load into a chartplotter. - **The tracks GPX** is the recorded track across the logs you selected. > [!IMPORTANT] > A seasonally paused account cannot reach any of these. The pause locks every page, exports included. If you are about to pause for the winter, export first. See [Subscription and seasonal pause](https://saillogger.com/docs/subscription-and-seasonal-pause.md). ## What other people can see about you Short version: your public pages, and your boat's name. - **Your public pages**, but only the ones you have switched on, and only if you have turned **Sharing** on at all. If you set an access password, only people who have it can open them. - **Your boat's name.** This is how you appear to the people you share with: to fleet-mates, to friends and to anyone following your boat. Saillogger identifies you by boat name, never by your e-mail address or username. - **Someone who follows your Saillogger profile is shown the boat's name.** Profile following requires the owner's sharing permission or current access password. Separately, a vessel broadcasting AIS may appear through public AIS data even when its Saillogger pages are private. Your e-mail address is never shown to other boaters. ## Deleting your account 1. Open **Settings** and stay on the **General** tab. 2. Scroll to the bottom and click **Delete Account**. 3. A box asks you to confirm your e-mail address. Type it exactly as it appears on the account. Deleting the account closes it, cancels the subscription, and takes down every shared page, so links you have given to family or friends stop working. > [!WARNING] > This cannot be undone from the interface. Your logs, tracks, moorages, stays, photos and statistics go with the account. Take the exports above first, and separately save any important photos or journal material because the CSV and GPX files do not include them. If you want a break rather than an ending, look at the seasonal pause in [Subscription and seasonal pause](https://saillogger.com/docs/subscription-and-seasonal-pause.md) instead. A pause keeps your logbook, statistics and photos in full; it puts them out of reach until you resume rather than deleting them. ## The formal documents Two things say what Saillogger commits to, and they are the authority rather than this guide: - The [Terms of Service](https://saillogger.com/tos/) - The [Privacy Policy](https://saillogger.com/privacy/) If something in them is unclear, ask on the [community forum](https://community.saillogger.com) or write to info@saillogger.com. > [!NEXT] > If something is not working rather than not clear, go to [Troubleshooting](https://saillogger.com/docs/troubleshooting.md).
