AIS Vessel Photo Contribution Agreement

Thank you for helping make Saillogger’s community AIS vessel catalog more useful. This agreement applies only when you submit a photo through Saillogger’s Add vessel photo flow for an AIS vessel. An AIS vessel photo submitted this way is called the “Photo” below.

1. Your personal Saillogger photos are not covered

Photos you upload as the profile photo for your Saillogger boat, or add to logs, trips, monitoring history, moorages, or stays, are your personal photos. This agreement does not apply to them or grant Saillogger the contribution license below. They remain entirely yours. Saillogger will not repurpose them for the AIS vessel catalog, marketing, datasets, partner integrations, or training artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

2. You keep ownership of your AIS contribution

Even for a Photo covered by this agreement, you keep the copyright and ownership. You may continue to use it and license it to other people. Saillogger does not claim ownership of the Photo you contribute.

3. The permission you give Saillogger

By submitting the Photo, you give Saillogger LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, crop, resize, format, edit for presentation, annotate, analyze, display, distribute, and create derivative works from the Photo.

Saillogger may use the Photo to operate, improve, promote, and commercialize its products, services, vessel-data services, datasets, and partner integrations. These uses may include developing, training, testing, and improving artificial intelligence and machine learning models, computer vision systems, other algorithms, and derived data.

Saillogger may allow its service providers and partners to use the Photo only as needed for these purposes. Saillogger may also transfer this license to an affiliate or successor as part of a merger, reorganization, or sale of Saillogger or the relevant part of its business. Saillogger will not sell or license the Photo as standalone stock photography without your separate permission.

4. When the permission becomes permanent

While the Photo is waiting for review, you may ask us to withdraw it by emailing [email protected]. If Saillogger accepts the Photo into the AIS vessel catalog, the license becomes permanent (perpetual and irrevocable to the fullest extent permitted by law) and continues if you close your account. This lets us keep the catalog and products built from it consistent over time.

Saillogger is not required to accept, use, or continue displaying a Photo and may remove it from public view at any time. Any datasets, models, algorithms, or other derived data already created using the Photo are not affected if the Photo is later withdrawn, removed, or deleted.

5. Photos you are welcome to contribute

Please contribute only a Photo you took yourself or one you have permission from the photographer or copyright owner to share on these terms. You confirm that you have the authority and any permissions reasonably needed to give Saillogger this license, and that our permitted use of the Photo will not violate another person’s copyright, privacy, publicity, or other rights.

Owning a vessel, or appearing in a photo of one, does not necessarily mean you own the photo. If someone else took it, please check with them before contributing it.

6. Photographer credit

If you provide a photographer name, you allow Saillogger to display it with the Photo. We may provide credit where the product or format supports it, but cannot promise that credit will appear with every use.

7. What Saillogger adds

Your ownership of the Photo does not extend to Saillogger’s services, catalog design, vessel associations, annotations, derived metadata, datasets, or other materials Saillogger creates. As between you and Saillogger, those materials remain Saillogger’s.

8. Viewing is not permission to reuse

This agreement gives rights to Saillogger, not to the general public. Merely viewing a Photo on Saillogger does not give someone permission to copy or reuse it. The limited permissions for Saillogger’s service providers and partners described above still apply.

9. Other terms and questions

This agreement supplements the Saillogger Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If there is a conflict about a contributed vessel Photo, this agreement controls. The version in effect when you submit a Photo applies to that Photo; updates apply to future contributions.
