First time to SYC Cortes Bay!! Excellent travel day - flat calm and we (mainly E) saw a humpback breach just south of Savary Island and perform numerous pec slaps. A second whale arrived but was not so demonstrative. We kept distance, reported the sighting and continued on.
The outstation is terrific! Arrived a few days ahead of Gina in order to scope it out. Pea patch is great! Lots of variety of fresh lettuce, sugar snap peas, herbs and some strawberries. Upper garden has yummy ripe raspberries. We did an excellent job foraging throughout our stay! Gina made a wonderful Lois inspired salads each night.
Gina flew in 6/25 and out 6/29. We hiked to the lookout, found a fawn in distress (Richard handled), foraged in the pea patch, dinghied to Refuge Cove, Hobie pedal boarded, celebrated Peter’s (Setri) bday by hosting dinner on IT, puzzled and had a good visit.
Prior to Gina’s arrival, IT crew dinghied to Refuge and Squirrel Cove’s one day and to Lund the next. When we hiked to Red Granite Lookout a humpback was below and blew several times!
Very few boats have come/gone during our stay. Today, 6/29, we are 1 of 3. There may have been as many as 8 boats 1-2 days. The buoyed a nice green box one night. Fiona and Trevor were here and headed to circumnavigate Vancouver Island!!
